IPSC Alberta Hosts First Sanctioned Mini Rifle Matches in the North Zone

On August 23 IPSC Alberta made history with its inaugural Mini Rifle match, hosted in Fort McMurray and quickly followed with another in Bonnyville September 13. Competitors from across the region came together to try out this exciting new discipline, and the result was nothing short of a success.

The matches delivered everything we hope for: a fun, safe, and challenging introduction to Mini Rifle, blending IPSC’s signature dynamic courses of fire with the accessibility of rimfire rifles. Shooters of all levels have the chance to test their skills in a fresh format, and the positive energy on the range was undeniable.

What made the events especially rewarding was seeing new and seasoned shooters alike walk away with big smiles, already looking forward to the next opportunity. Mini Rifle offers an approachable gateway into the sport while still demanding the precision, speed, and strategy that define IPSC competition.

A special thank you to the organizers and volunteers who made these matches possible. After a long day on the range completing a full handgun match, there were numerous individuals who stayed to help officiate and reset targets and your efforts were greatly appreciated. And of course, thanks to the debut competitors for your patience and participation to kick this off.

We’re confident this is just the beginning. The enthusiasm shown in Fort McMurray and Bonnyville proves that Mini Rifle has the potential to grow into an exciting new aspect of our sport here in Alberta.

We can’t wait to build on this momentum and see IPSC Mini Rifle flourish across the province.
