Mike was for a time the best IPSC shooter in Alberta, and I believe he was the first Alberta shooter to attend a World Shoot.
At the time he had more intense practice sessions than any of the rest of us. He would frequently use at least 75 rounds in his practice sessions, which was lot in the days before Dillon reloading presses.
Mike and his girlfriend were boating on Lake Isle. A powerboat went by and swamped their boat, and didn't stop. They struck out for shore. The girlfriend had a life jacket on. Mike did not. He was very portly, and possibly didn't have one that fit. On the swim to shore, Mike may have had a heart attack. The girlfriend made it to shore and survived. No help came for an hour.
Extra sad that his girlfriend had to witness it.
I thought that those that knew him would want to know.
