Hi all,

As an IPSC Alberta lurker, I hate to de-cloak with bad news, felt it important to get the word out. I suspect that this will only affect a small part of the IPSC Alberta membership, and there will be an e-mail going out later today (I hope), but I thought I would share/repeat this information here:

At the November meeting of the Sherwood Park Fish & Game Association executive committee, a motion was made and passed to ban the use of holsters with the flowing exceptions:
  • Uniformed Law Enforcement personnel
  • Black powder pistols
  • Cowboy action shooters

It is my understanding that this change is effective immediately.

I don't have much to share other than this. Any questions, comments, concerns should be directed to the SPFGA Rifle Chair via e-mail : This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

A bit of a sad news, but in my experience Sherwood Park has never been friendly to IPSC shooters. This opinion is based on experiences from a few years back...

Thanks for passing that info along. It's unfortunate, but not a surprise.

For those in the Edmonton area looking for an outdoor, all-gun-owner friendly environment to shoot at, I would recommend visiting CHAS historical-arms.com/

Based on my past experience with CHAS: IPSC crowd was not allowed to practice movement drills. Is that still true?

I believe so, but they have just built a new action shooting bay so i am hoping that will change soon.

I'm not sure, but I can ask. I'll inquire if the action bay Sosa mentioned will be allowing IPSC related movement drills (or any area for that matter).

Just out of curiosity, do you know of any outdoor ranges that accommodate these sorts of drills outside of, say, sanctioned events?

Rocky Mountain House gun range does allow movement on the range, but you have to be certified (BB or clubs orientation).
